Seniores guided tours
According to Social Security data, the number of pensioners under the age of 60 doubled between 1998 and 2002. According to the National Statistics Institute, since 1999, there have been more Portuguese over the age of 65 than under the age of 15.
Projections show an increase in the senior universe because European life expectancy increases by one year every four years.
The time has come for Museums to be aware of this reality: there is much to do with regard to the promotion of active old age: occupying time, exercising reasoning and socialisation.

Leisure activities are an enriching way of occupying time. The personal fulfilment that accompanies active old age depends a great deal on the individual’s attitude. Being positive, having healthy habits, seeking good social integration and good family involvement are absolutely essential.
Well aware of the rise in the number of seniors, the Paper Money Museum decided to devote its attention to them by creating a senior area within the Education Service.
The Paper Money Museum has designed visits specifically for seniors. .

Escudo, the money of the Republic
The 5th of October 1910 saw the first great Portuguese revolution of the 20th century. The monarchy was overthrown and the Republic installed.
